It was awfully cold, but the blankets did their job keeping the concrete temperatures within spec. We achieved the PSI levels we had targeted, and it turned out to be a successful operation. We didn't have the time to wait out the winter for the temperatures to become more moderate. Concrete & Masonry
During cold weather months, concrete & masonry cannot simply be placed, finished and forgotten. In the early stages it must be continuously protected from freezing and repeated freeze-thaw cycles. The ultimate strength of concrete can be reduced by up to 50 percent if it freezes soon after placement, usually before 24 hours and before reaching strength of 500 psi
